How to Remove Paan Stains from a White Shirt

Paan stains can be difficult to remove from white clothes because paan contains ingredients such as betel leaf, tobacco, lime, and colored spices. If paan spit has fallen on your white shirt, it is important to treat the stain as soon as possible.

First, gently remove any excess paan residue with a spoon or a clean cloth. Do not rub the stain, because rubbing can spread it deeper into the fabric.

Next, rinse the stained area from the back of the fabric with cold water. This helps push the stain out instead of further into the fibers. Apply a small amount of liquid laundry detergent directly to the stain and gently work it into the fabric with your fingers. Leave it for about 10–15 minutes.

For a stubborn stain on a white, washable shirt, you can use a color-safe oxygen-based stain remover according to the product instructions. After treatment, wash the shirt using the warmest water recommended on its care label.

Before drying the shirt, check the stained area carefully. If the stain is still visible, repeat the treatment rather than putting the shirt in a dryer or exposing it to high heat. Heat can make some stains more difficult to remove.

Finally, rinse the shirt thoroughly and let it air-dry. Always test any cleaning product on a hidden area of the fabric first, especially if the shirt is delicate.

With quick treatment and gentle cleaning, most fresh paan stains can be significantly reduced or removed from a white shirt.
